Historiquement, la Paroisse Saint Jean doit sa naissance au fait de l'éloignement du centre ville, des chrétiens qui avaient élu domicile à Yantala dans les années 70. Quelques chrétiens Mossi et Dassa se regroupèrent pour la prière et pour la catéchèse. Ils furent accompagnés par Sœur Rolande jusqu'en 1980, puis ensuite par le Père Michel Cartatéguy.

Devant le nombre croissant des chrétiens, la construction d'une chapelle fut décidée en 1983. Ce lieu de culte rattaché à la Cathédrale, devint Paroisse en 1985.

Une nouvelle église a été construite (dec 2001-mars 2002). Elle a été bénie de façon solennelle le 7 avril 2002.

En octobre 2002 ont été construites 2 salles polyvalentes dans le quartier "Foulani Koira"
ilot 33608.

Située à l'Ouest de Niamey, la Paroisse Saint Jean comprend nombre de quartiers.

Paroisse d'une grande ville cosmopolite, elle regroupe des chrétiens d'origines diverses,
- Diversité des nationalités et des langues : Nigériens, Burkinabés, Béninois, Togolais, Tchadiens, Congolais...
- Diversité des situations sociales : conditions modestes surtout : cuisiniers, employés de maison, gardiens, jardiniers des bords du fleuve, ouvriers, boutiquiers et fonctionnaires peu nombreux.

- catéchuménat adultes en français, Djerma, Mooré, Gourmancema, Mina, Dassa, Fon.

- Centre féminin qui assure une formation complète de la femme et de la jeune fille dans les locaux de la paroisse et dans les « antennes » des quartiers de Goudel, Bagdad, Yantala-Bas, Dar Es Salam (70 femmes)

- Aide sociale assurée par le groupe « Promotion Communautaire ».

Sidebar

This is the Sidebar which can be either the Left or Right modular position, which is determined by your personal settings in the index.php. The hilites themselves are divided into 5 colours, with each colour having 3 different modes. The syntax is either:-
  1. -hilitenumber such as -hilite1. This styles the header only with a ribbon enveloping both sides of the column.
  2. -hilitenumbera such as -hilite2a. This styles the whole module with a ribbon enveloping the right side of the column.
  3. -hilitenumberb such as -hilite3b. This styles the whole module with a ribbon enveloping the left side of the column.
The last remaining hilite is -ad which is that particular style variant's -hilite1 module class suffix.
